About Myself
Hello, my name is Neysa, and I’m a music student studying at SAE University. I play both the acoustic and electric guitar, and I love to explore and expand my music production and composition skills on Ableton Live 12. As a musician, I have a pretty open mind when it comes to genres I enjoy because I love all of them. However, I particularly like to listen to genres like Bossa nova, RnB, and Kpop. As my studies draw to a close, I find myself wanting to experience music in more ways than just through streaming platforms and live music.
Why Eastside Radio?
Driven by a continuous pursuit of both contemporary and classic music, my attention draws to Eastside Radio. I particularly owe to its diverse offering of jazz and blues genres. It brings me back to when I would always listen to the radio with my dad. While cooking in the kitchen, the radio sits in the background, playing songs and pieces that I don’t even know the names of. What I admire about Eastside Radio is that it’s a community-centred station. They focus on providing listeners new and timeless music, that has almost never been broadcasted live. As social media slowly learns to love the classics of blues and jazz, it brings a sense of hope, especially in a digital environment that prioritises repetitive mainstream media.
“Song For You” presented by Chris Borton brings old timely jazz and blues into the light. This particular program broadens not only my music horizons, but also brings some lovely commentary, regarding every piece with the respect and attention it deserves. This spark of genuine and passionate energy in between songs shows the station’s love for jazz and blues. To show an example, this incredible guitar piece called “Mediterranean Sundance” by Paco De Lucia is one of many songs I’ve added to my own curated playlists, following my first day as an intern at Eastside Radio.
As I continue learning about the history of Eastside Radio, I believe that this is an environment that brings hands-on experience working in both technical and creative challenges.
