PJ (Patrick Jonathan) is the ‘New (old) Kid On The Eastside Block’. His love for music was nurtured as a kid. His father played piano and did regular gigs with local dance bands in Cape Town, South Africa while his mother’s beautiful voice filled the lounges of all the family gatherings. In between having a special interest in collecting jazz and African music for the past 30+ years, PJ found time to become actively involved in issues and campaigns for a free South Africa, including visiting refugee camps in Botswana and Tanzania and raising the awareness of Australians as to the true nature of the struggle during South Africa’s apartheid era.PJ’s passion for music and jazz includes playing the flute and studying jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He played steel pans and was a playing member of Pan 2000 which performed at local festivals as well as Bellingen in 1999. PJ managed the Peter Tosh Tour of Australia in 1983.PJ’s interest in radio began in the 80’s when he co-found the radio program African Connection on another community radio station, and he’s excited about this chance to have his own radio show and sharing the music that he’s collected with the wider community. To contact Dial Afrika send an email to dialafrika@eastsidefm.org.
